Keep your heart with all diligence

Seth from NYC wrote: “I’ve always admired tattoos but never felt I could have one. My father forbade it, and I honored his wishes, and to a large degree, I have become him! My son, who is 25, has many tattoos and, for many years, hid them from me. Eventually, I found out, and it was a very hard thing for me to absorb. I did not until recently accept his body art as his way of expressing himself. It went against everything I was taught and believed, but now all this has changed for me.”
This is how Seth starts telling his story of his undiscovered heart condition. If left undetected he would have surely passed away.
And he finishes with, “Most people with my disease never find out and they drop dead from a massive coronary. I got the message loud and clear, it was the ultimate gift and I made it through. I want a constant reminder to be good to my heart because now it is a matter of life and death. I have a heart for social justice and my fellow beings and yes I’m grounded in my roots.
I need something special to constantly remind me of who I am, what I stand for and to be good to myself.”
David worked hard to find the right wording for this project. As for me, I feel this is one of the few projects I ever drew that needed no conceptualisation. All I had to do was to draw what Seth came with.
